Global Water Expo — Saudi Arabia’s key event for the water industry

The DESAL Research Group at KAUST was proud to take part in the Global Water Expo in Riyadh, where our Group Leader, Prof. Noreddine Ghaffour, attended as a VIP delegate.

Over the three days, Prof. Ghaffour met with leading stakeholders in the water sector — including the MediSun team and their new partners, GreenTech from China, which develops containerized rapid deployment systems integrated with MediSun RED in a compact way. Meetings were also held with Future Horizons, Energy Recovery (ERI), WETICO, BELGICAST International, and many others.

The conversations extended beyond the exhibition halls, with a visit to Future Horizons’ office in Riyadh to explore potential collaborations.

Forums like the Global Water Expo are essential to connect researchers, industry, and decision-makers, creating the conditions for innovative ideas to be transformed into practical solutions for real-world water challenges.

At the DESAL Research Group, together with colleagues from the Water Desalination and Reuse Platform and other research groups from different Divisions, we are developing cost-effective, renewable energy-based desalination technologies aligned with Vision 2030. Our goal is to move innovations from the lab into industry — supporting water security, sustainability, and economic growth.
