Biography
Dr. Sofiane Soukane received a PhD (1998) and MSc (1994) in process engineering from Institut National Polytechnique de Toulouse, France, and BSc from Ecole Polytechnique d’Alger (1993). He worked as a senior research fellow where he served as the head of the modeling and simulation group at Ecole Polytechnique de Montreal-Canada for six years. Prior to that he spent two years as a post-doctoral research associate at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in New York, USA and another two years as an R&D research engineering at Applied Materials Inc. Core Technologies group in Santa Clara, California, USA. He joined later the Advanced Technologies Research Center in Algiers, Algeria, as a process integration manager of semiconductor processing facilities, and then held an academic position as an Associate Professor at Blida University and National School of Marine Science and Coastal Management in Algiers. He joined KAUST in 2019 to develop innovative technologies in desalination and water reuse.
Research Interests
My research interest at KAUST lies in process hybridization and optimization of water and resources recovery processes as well as the development of innovative technologies in desalination through prototyping and advanced numerical modeling.
